The SMU Mustangs had two representatives on the Texas Sports Hall of Fame Ballot for 2011. Louie Kelcher, who played football for the Mustangs, and Richard Quick, the greatest swimming coach in SMU history.

Kelcher was an All-America nose guard for SMU and was named the Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 1974. He would later be drafted to the NFL and play in three Pro Bowls, as well as earning a Super Bowl ring with the San Francisco 49ers in 1984.

Quick is one of the most storied collegiate swimming coaches in history. He was a six-time United States Olympic coach and he also directed 13 teams to NCAA titles, which is the most ever by a swimming coach. Quick was also instrumental in starting the women’s program at the Hilltop. He passed away in June of 2009.

The official announcement for the class of 2012 will be made in September and the chosen ones will be enshrined in early 2012 in Waco, Texas.
