The SMU men's basketball team took a big step forward last season when they had their first 20-win season and first postseason bid since 1999-2000. The Mustangs managed to advance to the semifinals of the Tournament (CIT) before getting knocked out. The team also had its most wins in Conference USA with eight.

Understandably, there's a lot of hype surrounding the team this year. Interested parties can get their first look at the team when it hosts the sixth annual Tip-Off Dinner at the Park Cities Hilton on Thursday, October 13. The keynote speaker for the event will be Kenny Smith, two-time NBA champion and TNT analyst. Smith played his college basketball at the University of North Carolina alongside SMU head coach Matt Doherty.

Tickets for the event are $100 a person and $750 for an entire table that includes a coach or student-athlete. The team will start the season in mid-November at Stanford, California while participating at the Preseason NIT Tournament.
