The SMU men's basketball team took a big step forward last season when they had their first 20-win season and first postseason bid since 1999-2000. The Mustangs managed to advance to the semifinals of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) before getting knocked out. The team also had its most wins in Conference USA with eight.
Understandably, there's a lot of hype surrounding the team this year. Interested parties can get their first look at the team when it hosts the sixth annual Tip-Off Dinner at the Park Cities Hilton on Thursday, October 13. The keynote speaker for the event will be Kenny Smith, two-time NBA champion and TNT analyst. Smith played his college basketball at the University of North Carolina alongside SMU head coach Matt Doherty.
Tickets for the event are $100 a person and $750 for an entire table that includes a coach or student-athlete. The team will start the season in mid-November at Stanford, California while participating at the Preseason NIT Tournament.
