Twenty SMU communication and journalism students will travel to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Jan. 21 inauguration festivities and gain valuable experience inside the Beltway.

Students will be tweeting about their Washington, D.C. experiences at @SMUHilltop1 and blogging about their experiences at smu.edu/adventures. SMU’s student newspaper, the Daily Campus, also will report from the inauguration.

The students will gather at noon, Friday, Jan. 18, in the SMU journalism department to discuss student journalism coverage of the event.

This is the fifth inauguration SMU students have attended as part of SMU Hilltop on the Hill, a weeklong program sponsored by SMU’s Division of Communication Studies and Journalism. The program allows students to meet Washington, D.C.-area alumni, public officials and communications professionals to learn what happens behind the scenes from staff ranging from the White House to Capitol Hill.
