The Mustangs struck first in the heated rivalry between cross-town rivals SMU and TCU that will culminate in Saturday's slugfest football game commonly known as The Battle for the Iron Skillet. Normally, in the days leading up to the game, students from both schools sneak onto the other campus to pull pranks and other mischief. But with police cracking down on both ends, the schools have tried a more civil approach to get fans excited for the game.

The Horned Frogs challenged the Mustangs to a race: the first school to get 1,000 donors between September 9 and September 29 wins. Donations benefit the SMU Scholarship Fund to help more students get to the Hilltop. However, donors can also choose where they want their donations to go, such as the Mustang Club, a specific school or even the libraries.

SMU crushed TCU in the contest with a final count of 1,000 to 853. The Mustangs' victory will be broadcasted at Amon G. Carter Stadium on Saturday in front of tens of thousands of TCU and SMU fans.

The SMU vs. TCU game will kick off on Saturday, October 1 at 2:30 p.m.
