Meadows Percussion Ensemble: An Evening of Percussion

FREE

The Meadows Percussion Ensemble presents its Fall Concert, An Evening of Percussion. The concert is FREE and no ticket is required.

The MPE opens its concert with the classic marimba quartet by Nigel Westlake, Omphalo Centric Lecture. This driving and minimalistic piece has been a challenging favorite for years. Next, we will perform Radio by Kevin Bobo. This fun and fascinating piece gives the impression of listening to music and "changing stations" on an old-fashioned radio. Next, we feature Meadows undergraduate student Melody Tang on Ida/Some of These Days Medley by Eddie Muson, Eddie Leonard, and Shelton Brooks, arranged by Jonathan Singer. Singer transcribes a 1920’s recording of Billy Gladstone playing this medley with the Capitol Theatre Orchestra and arranges it for solo xylophone with marimba band accompaniment. We end the first half with a piece arranged by Jamal Mohamed.

After intermission, the MPE presents Meadows composition professor, Dr. Lane Harder's, La Razon del Viaje (The Reason for the Journey). Originally premiered by the MPE, we are pleased to perform it again. The piece features mezzo soprano with percussion and piano accompaniment. It is a setting of the poetry of Enrique Gonzales Martinez. This major seven-movement work is something that everyone should experience. It will be an unforgettable Evening of Percussion.
