Four SMU Mustangs are on the watch list for the 2011 Rotary Lombardi Award, which is given annually to college football's best lineman, offensive or defensive. With four players on the list, SMU is tied with Alabama, Boise State, Florida State, Miami and North Carolina for the most nominees.

The four SMU players are offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum, linebacker Ja'Gared Davis, linebacker Taylor Reed and defensive end Taylor Thompson. Aside from being on this Watch List, Beachum and Thompson are also on the Watch List for their respective positions. Beachum is on the Watch List for the Outland Award and Thompson is on the Watch List for the Nagurski Award.

Players earn a spot on the Watch List by either earning All-American honors the previous year, being named to their respective All-Conference first team or if they are projected to earn either All-American honors or first-team All-Conference honors in the upcoming year. Finally, the nominations committee can also put a player on the Watch List.

The Mustangs kick off the season in College Station when they take on the Texas A&M Aggies on September 4.
