After much debate, University Park is allowing residents to apply for parking stickers that will allows them to park near SMU without receiving a parking ticket. Lori Stahl of The Dallas Morning News first reported the change.

The city has long been receiving complaints about the situation, namely because students and visitors to the campus would take up on-street parking that normally would be available to homeowners.

However, with this new plan, the city is providing two free parking stickers per address; the tickets are not transferable.  A proof of residency is required why applying for the stickers. Enforcement of the stickers will begin this fall in September.
