We invite you to attend our next virtual Gilbert Lecture of the academic year where we will have writer and author Jia Tolentino speak. Please be sure to review her abstract and bio located below. The event will be on Thursday, February 10th. The Zoom meeting will start at 6:30 pm and is expected to end around 8:00 pm. Below the bio you will find the Zoom link information. Abstract: Jia Tolentino reads from an essay about ecstasy as the link between virtue and vice, drugs and religion, and answers questions about the writing process.
Bio: Jia Tolentino is a staff writer at the New Yorker and the author of the essay collection Trick Mirror. Formerly, she was the deputy editor at Jezebel and a contributing editor at the Hairpin. She grew up in Texas, received her undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia, and got her MFA in fiction from the University of Michigan. In 2020, she received a Whiting Award as well as the Jeannette Haien Ballard Prize. Her work has also appeared in the New York Times Magazine and Pitchfork, among other places.
