Dallas, Texas 75275

The Alpha Upsilon chapter of Delta Gamma and the Maguire Center for Ethics & Public Responsibility are proud to welcome Nastia Liukin, Olympic gymnastics champion and former Mustang, to SMU as the 2017 Delta Gamma Lecturer in Values and Ethics.

Liukin is the 2008 Olympic individual all-around champion, the 2005 and 2007 world champion on the balance beam, and the 2005 world champion on the uneven bars. She holds nine World Championships medals, seven of them individual: a tie for the third-highest tally of World Championship medals (among U.S. gymnasts). She is also a four-time all-around U.S. national champion, winning twice as a junior and twice as a senior.

The only child of two former Soviet champion gymnasts, Liukin is fluent in Russian and American. She graduated from Spring Creek Academy in Plano, Texas and enrolled at Southern Methodist University as an international business major in 2007 before taking a leave to concentrate on Olympic training. Since retiring from the sport in 2012, Liukin has made various TV and film appearances and served as an analyst for NBC Sports Group during their coverage of gymnastics events.

She has partnered with several disaster aid organizations, including those assisting victims of Hurricanes Ike and Sandy in 2008 and 2012, respectively.

With a unique American Dream story, Liukin aspires to inspire young women to reach for the gold and turn their own dreams into reality.
