Three Dallas-Area High School Choirs to Perform at Event Benefitting North Texas Food Bank

Normally, Dallas-area high schools are all about their rivalries—but this week, three local schools will come together on a good note.

A cappella choirs from Garland High School, Lake Highlands High School and Plano Senior High School will join efforts in support of the North Texas Food Bank on Thursday, October 25.  The "Among Friends Concert" will be held at 7:30 pm at Highland Park United Methodist Church and the public is invited to attend. Admission is by donation of non-perishable food item or cash to the North Texas Food Bank.

The event will be emceed by Ron Corning, the morning anchor and host for WFAA-TV (Ch. 8), and the choral program will be led by Dr. David N. Childs, composer and Director of Choral Music at Highland Park UMC. A native of New Zealand, Dr. Childs was previously Associate Professor of Choral Studies at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.  An internationally renowned composer and conductor, he has served in Anglican, Episcopal, and Methodist churches. Childs is married to Dr. Lesley French Childs, an otolaryngologist (ear, nose, & throat doctor) who is additionally an accomplished soprano.

Cheryl Wilson, Michael O’Hern, Derrick Brookins  are the Choral Directors at Garland High School, Lake Highlands High School and Plano Senior High School, respectively.
