SMU Prospect Gehrig Dieter Officially Commits to Mustangs

The SMU football team landed a big recruit this week when three-star wide receiver Gehrig Dieter officially announced he was joining the Mustangs during halftime of the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl at Chase Field in Phoenix. Dieter chose SMU over Kansas, which was the only other school to offer him a scholarship.

"It's a great spot," Dieter said. "I just feel like I fit in there."

The 6-foot-3, 200 pound Dieter hails from Washington High School in South Bend, Indiana where he put up monster offensive numbers, especially in his senior year. He had 82 receptions for 2,182 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also set a national record with 437 receiving yards against Elkhart Central earlier this year. To honor his season, he was named to the MaxPreps All-American first team.

Dieter will enroll at SMU later in January and will be with the team during spring practice. This will give Dieter plenty of time to learn head coach June Jones' Run 'n' Shoot offense. With SMU's prolific offense, he should have no trouble showing off his talent. According to Dieter, SMU had been in his heart since the middle of his high school season.

"It's one of those places where everything's right."
