Highland Park United Methodist Church will be having a memorial service for John Rodman Steele at 2 p.m. on July 19 in the sanctuary of the church.

Steele, who was a 50-year-old Highland Park resident, passed away last Wednesday. According to his obituary, Steele was active at HPUMC, having taught Sunday school and Bible study there. He even served on the church's Advisory Board.

HPUMC is currently offering support to people who were impacted by the Steele family's loss.

"In light of the sudden and tragic loss within the Steele family, Pastors are readily available for prayer and support by contacting Congregational Care at 214-523-2241," according to the church's website. "Additionally, if you would like to talk with any of our partnering grief counselors, please contact Gregg Medlyn of The Marriage and Family Group, PLLC at 214-613-1656."

The family is asking that instead of sending flowers, please make donations to the Highland Park UMC Youth Ministry at 3300 Mockingbird Ln., Dallas, Texas 75205.
