Chili Cook-Off at the Truck Yard Benefits Angie’s Friends

Featuring some of Dallas’ bright spots in the culinary art world, this Sunday the Truck Yard will be hosting a Celebrity Chef Chili Cook-Off with the proceeds for the event benefiting Angie’s Friends, a local nonprofit animal welfare organization that’s dedicated to helping neglected and abused dogs.

Featuring an array of food trucks replaced by chef-manned tables, attendees will visit each table for a taste and choose the winner for the best chili.

The cost is just $25, which includes a cup for beer to wash the chili down, too.

The first time that the event is taking place, Jason Boso, who was the brainchild behind the idea for Sunday’s cook-off and who is the Proprietor/Chef/Bartender/Busboy of The Truck Yard as well as Twisted Root Burger Co./Tacos & Avocados/Quincy's Chicken Shack, said he invited a variety of chefs to become a part of the event starting by asking his neighboring chef friends first.

“Luckily, everyone that was asked was immediately on board and excited,” Boso said. “We have an incredible lineup of talented chefs.”

With five chefs taking part in the cook-off, participants will be given one marble to give to the chef with the best chili. At the end of the event, the chef with the most marbles wins.

Participating chefs include Jon Stevens (Stock & Barrel), Danyele McPherson (Remedy, HG Supply Co.), Nathan Tate (Rapscallion, Boulevardier), Graham Dodds (Hibiscus) and Randall Warder (Clark Food & Wine Co., C’Viche).

“I just love chili and this is the time of year to start thinking about stewing pots of meat sparked with dried chiles and other fiery seasonings,” Warder said of his involvement. “And what better way to start the season with a chili cook-off right in our neighborhood — would not miss it for the world."

The folks at Angie’s Friends, whose emphasis is on aiding the neglected and abused dogs in economically depressed neighborhoods of Dallas, are excited too.

“This will be a super fun way to spend an afternoon,” a spokesperson for Angie’s Friends said. “You get to hang at Truck Yard and sample chili made by chefs from incredible restaurants and maybe you'll even run into a pup that you just can't resist. We are thrilled to be a part of this event.”

Tickets will be available at the door and the event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Truck Yard located at 5624 Sears Street just off the Lower Greenville strip.
