Join assistant professor Stephen Sekula of the department of Physics at SMU on Tuesday, March 6 at Maggiano's at NorthPark Center to discuss "The Cosmos and the Collider: Our Quest to Understand the Universe".
The history of any science, including physics, is punctuated with unexpected discoveries that shape our understanding of the cosmos. We stand at the threshold of such an era, as wrestle with deep questions about the origin and evolution of our univerise from a dense soup of subatomic particles to a vast expanse of galaxies.
We have looked out into the cosmos and glimpsed the true nature of our universe. We have now embarked on a great question to recreate the early universe using subatomic particle colliders, so that we might better understand how the beginning of time connects to the universe we see today.
